Mission Relief Ships Container to Africa

11/10/10:  Container# TTNU 536234.  Another container for Africa! The National Catholic Hospital in Ghana, West Africa can be found on the internet, and is also known as the Battor Hospital. This container was funded by the Salesians Missions of New Rochelle, New York. Books and surgical supplies filled this diverse shipment, but over 100 cases of donated new clothes from the Sports wear Outlets of Secaucus, New Jersey were also included. Very fine birthing beds, and physician examination room equipment was sent, and the new Ghana birthing center will benefit from this container. As we close out the decade, it seems as Africa is an easier place to work than Central America, and is rivaling the freight rates to make it an attractive place to have projects. We pray for the nuns who operate this hospital.

Mission Relief Services was organized in 2001 and is listed as a non- profit humanitarian aid organization specializing in the redistribution ofmedical and surgical institutional supplies, furnishings and personal care items. These items are contributed by hospitals, colleges, religious organizations, clinics, manufacturers, and individuals and shipped to over 40 countries throughout the world. Mission Relief collects, processes, stores, and ships these items to designated areas of need.

Organizations and hospitals that we frequently work with are the Pan American Development Foundation, The Haitian Consulate, Bryn Mawr Hospital, The Lankenau Hospital, University of Pennsylvania Health System, Pennsylvania Hospital, St Francis Hospital, Wilmington, DE, Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ, Cancer Centers ofAmerica, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, The Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, “Faces ofTomorrow” Davis, CA, Crudem Foundation, Adventist Dev and Relief Agency, Bethesda, MD The Salesian Missions, Sister Cities Philadelphia and Sister Cities international.

Since January 1, 2010 Mission Relief has shipped 16 large 40 foot containers. They have been inspected, inventoried, packed tightly and safely shipped. All containers have a materials list to identify hospital beds, x-ray machines, surgical equipment, clothing, furniture, hearing equipment, syringes and books. When they arrive at the foreign destination, Mission Relief Services arranges for project staffto unload and ensure that items get to their proper destination.

This year Mission Relief Services has elevated a Leprosy ospital and a children’s hospital in the Dominican Republic. Also, we have shipped to children’s hospitals in Jamaica and Panama.

In addition to containers shipped to Haiti, we have upgraded hospitals in Greece, Crete, Ghana, Columbia, Panama, Honduras, Chile and Ethiopia.

A contribution will benefit global worldwide humanitarian relief for people who desperately need assistance with medical equipment, hospital furnishings and care.
